Local candy store celebrates Girls’ Day with fresh mochi

HONOLULU (KHON2) — March 3 is Girls’ Day, and residents are celebrating the occasion in a sweet way!

Dozens of people lined up early at Nisshodo, a local candy store specializing in Japanese sweets, to get their Girls’ Day mochi boxes.

“We’ve been trying to pump out the product as best as we can,” said Michael Hira, president of Nisshodo. “I really appreciate that they come down and their patience and everything, they all have good humor too so I’m amazed.”

The Honolulu-based store has been serving customers since 1921.

Store employees said the line stretched through the parking lot — with some workers arriving at 2 a.m…
