HPD says robberies are up on Oahu, need communities help to prevent crimes and prosecute criminals

HONOLULU (KHON2) — If you feel like there’s been an increase in robberies on Oahu, you’re right, and Honolulu Police say they’re doing what they can to arrest and prosecute these criminals, but need your help.

Micah Pai at Pai Cafe is all about taking care of his customers. Open just two years, he knows he’s been lucky not to have been hit by crime yet. And he’s not taking any chances – especially with what he feels is a recent increase in robberies.

“For sure, I don’t wanna take advantage of the good luck we’ve been having,” said Micah Pai, Pai Cafe. “We will absolutely be upping surveillance.”

“Yeah, there has been a recent uptick of robberies,” said Lt. Kelvin Hayakawa, HPD Criminal Investigations Robbery Detail. “We haven’t noticed any patterns or trends right now. The investigations are all still ongoing, but they all seem to be crimes of opportunity.”…
