HONOLULU (KHON2) — A major retailer at Ala Moana Shopping Center is closing due to performance and customer preference.

Saks Global announced the Neiman Marcus store will close at the end of May — the Mariposa restaurant will also close, though a date has not been announced.
The Neiman Marcus store at Ala Moana has been open since 1998 and has become an anchor for the mall with its large space and ocean views. Realtors who have worked in commercial spaces say whatever comes next will need to fill the void.
“So you need something to anchor folks to come to the mall, because oftentimes a lot of the other contracts in the mall are based upon the likelihood of people being brought to these anchor locations,” said Hawaii Life realtor and attorney Joey Furlett. “Whatever goes in there is going to need to be a draw for people.”…
