Kualoa-Hakipuu Canoe Festival returns to Hōkūle’a birth site

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Here is your Hawaiian word of the day: wa’a, which means “canoe,” and Saturday is going to be a shoreline here at Hakipu’u full of canoes that are celebrating the canoe, taking us to ancestral knowledge, applying it today, and enjoying time with friends and family.

This is all about the 17th annual Kualoa-Hakipu’u Canoe Festival, and it is happening right here, rain or shine.

Now, this is always a fun event because there are free canoe rides, there are educational lessons, and there are ways to connect back to old Hawai’i, and again, how do we continue that and inspire the new generations to bring that and live that today?…
