Powerful storm expected to bring days of heavy rain, flooding threat across Hawaiʻi

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The National Weather Service is urging residents and visitors across Hawaiʻi to prepare for a powerful storm system expected to bring several days of heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible flooding beginning early next week.

Stormy weather for entire state by mid-week

Forecasters have issued a hydrologic outlook for the state as a large low-pressure system developing northwest of the islands pulls deep tropical moisture northward. The system is expected to begin impacting the state as early as Tuesday, with the heaviest weather likely continuing through the weekend.

“This is a powerful Kona storm that’s going to be impacting the whole state,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Genki Kino. “It could start as early as Tuesday, but more likely from Tuesday night through the rest of the week and Saturday and maybe even Sunday as well.”
