Storm Pounds Windward Oahu: Flooded Highways, Downed Trees, Landslides

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Relentless rain is soaking Windward Oahu, sending water rushing down mountains and onto roadways.

Strong winds, rain to continue as Kona low passes through islands

Along Kamehameha Highway near Waiahole Stream, drivers faced delays after the stream overflowed and flooded the roadway. Crews were working to clear debris from the stream, forcing officials to turn drivers around.

“I guess I don’t really have a choice. I hope they let me through up here. If not, I’ll have to turn around and go around the island,” said Eliza Henrie, who had left work early to get home to Laie.
