HONOLULU (KHON2) — As the Kona storm persists across the islands, roads have been closed on Sunday, March 15, to deal with storm impacts.
Check out the list of closures according to the Hawaii Department of Transportation:
OAHU CLOSURES
- In Waimanalo, A crew will be closing the right lane of Kalanianaole Hwy (Rte 72) in the Waimanalo-bound direction near Kanapuu Drive from 12-9 p.m. to clear slide debris.
- A crew will be closing the right lane of Kalanianaole/Pali Hwy (Rte 61) Kailua-bound between Castle Junction and Kapaa Quarry Road from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 16, to install slope matting and anchors.
- H-3 Freeway closed in both directions at the Halekou interchange starting at 1 p.m. for HECO transmission line emergency repairs.
- All westbound traffic from MCBH will be escorted off at the Kamehameha Hwy off-ramp and both Kamehameha Hwy westbound on-ramps will be closed.
- The Likelike westbound on-ramp will also be closed
MAUI CLOSURES
- HDOT crews continue to clear trees and debris from North Kihei Road. The road is closed between Honoapiilani Highway and Piilani Highway.
- Tree down blocking the road at mile marker 10 on Hana Highway in the vicinity of Puohokamoa Falls.
- Crater Road (Rte. 378) remains closed beginning at MM 2.5 and Kula Highway (Rte. 37) remains closed from MM 15 to 17. HDOT will be clearing the trees and mud from the areas this morning.
- Traffic is heavy around Paia town as police are alternating traffic in the area due to a utility line down between Baldwin Beach Park and Paia town.
