Some Hawaii businesses taking big losses from Kona Low

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The lights are still out for thousands across Hawaii, and the cost is adding up.

Businesses said they have lost thousands in sales and spoiled products.

The Hawaii Restaurant Association said local eateries are hit hard by extended power outages, especially when they happen while children are out of school.

“It’s just been really challenging and not a good time, not during spring break,” HRA executive director Sheryl Matsuoka said. “Not only do they lose sales obviously, they lose their whole inventory because now they’re refrigerator and their freezer everything defrosts, so they have to purchase all new inventory.”…
