Mayor Blangiardi outlines 2026 plans to tackle Oʻahu’s cost of living

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi delivered his 2026 State of the City address, focusing on how the City is working to make life more affordable for Oʻahu residents. He highlighted progress in affordable housing, including plans to acquire more land near the future Skyline station in Iwilei to support at least 3,000 affordable units. The mayor emphasized transit-oriented development as key to keeping housing prices down and protecting agricultural lands.

Blangiardi also discussed efforts to streamline city permitting, modernize departments, and use artificial intelligence to improve efficiency without raising property taxes. He closed by addressing two major issues: finding a site for a new landfill and improving services for the homeless population
