Maui officials urge residents to prepare ahead of new Kona low storm

MAUI COUNTY, Hawaii (Island News) — The County of Maui is urging residents to prepare for another Kona low storm expected to impact the islands later this week, even as crews continue responding to damage from a recent severe weather system.

According to the National Weather Service, the incoming storm is not expected to be as strong as the last. However, with ground conditions already saturated, the risk for flash flooding and landslides remains high.

A Flood Watch is set to take effect at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, through 6 p.m. Sunday, March 22, for Maui, Molokai, Oahu and the Big Island. Forecasters said the heaviest rainfall is expected Friday night into Saturday, with multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain possible…
