WAIANAE, Hawaii (Island News) — Areas on Oahu’s west side are still dealing with standing water days after back-to-back Kona storms, leaving some families cut off from their homes for weeks as recovery efforts slowly ramp up across Waianae.
On Iliili Road in Paakea, floodwaters from two Kona storms left homes surrounded and, in some cases, completely inaccessible. Residents say the water had been building for weeks before any major help arrived.
“This actually happened from the storm like two, three weeks ago… it was just accumulating water… but today we are officially getting help,” said resident Patricia Luke…
