LIST: Rain, shelters and road closures expected Sunday across Oahu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaii’s forecast storms for Friday and Saturday have closed facilities throughout Oahu through Sunday, April 12.

The City and County of Honolulu officials monitored weather conditions as the Hawaiian Islands remain under a Flash Flood Watch in effect through 6 p.m. Monday, April 13.

Facility closures

  • Honolulu Zoo
  • Waikiki Shell
  • Neil Blaisdell Center
  • Municipal golf courses
  • Parks and all City and County of Honolulu Botanical Gardens
    • Until further notice
  • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve
    • Closed through Tuesday, April 14
  • The Waialua Community Assistance Center and Distribution Hub will remain closed on Sunday and Monday
    • Will resume once weather conditions allow

City crews work across the Hawaiian Islands to clear debris, address drainage issues and evaluate facilities for reopening.

Shelters

A total of six shelters will remain open across Oahu and will continue operations at least through Tuesday, April 14.

  • Nanakuli High and Intermediate
    • Will close today at 5:00 p.m.
  • Manoa Valley District Park
  • George Fred Wright Wahiawa District Park
  • Kahuku Elementary
    • Will close today at 5:00 p.m.
  • Waianae District Park
  • Kaneohe District Park

Shelter locations at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School and Kahuku Elementary School will close today at 5:00 p.m., allowing the campuses to be prepared for the Monday school day.

As of 1:00 pm, city officials said there were no residents at either shelter. Anyone seeking shelter at these locations will be provided the opportunity to be transferred to any of the other open shelters…
