Irimata & McGaughey earn Big West weekly honors

The University of Hawai‘i softball team got a double delivery of Big West Conference weekly awards on Monday, with pitcher Taryn Irimata and infielder Jamie McGaughey earning top honors following the Rainbow Wahine’s three-game series sweep of Cal State Bakersfield.

Irimata was named Big West Pitcher of the Week after delivering back-to-back complete-game shutouts. The Campbell graduate posted a 0.00 ERA over 10 innings, allowing just four hits while holding opponents to a .118 batting average.

She opened the series with a one-hit shutout, tying a career high with seven strikeouts while facing only 17 batters. Irimata followed with another shutout in the finale, tossing five innings and allowing three hits to secure her eighth win of the season. The honor marks the third weekly award of her career.

McGaughey earned Big West Field Player of the Week recognition after a dominant performance at the plate and in the field. The junior third baseman hit .667 (6-for-9) with two doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs, accounting for a large portion of Hawai‘i’s 27 runs in the series.
