Kapolei fundraiser nets $60K for Special Olympics Hawaii

KAPOLEI, Hawaii (KHON2) — More than $60,000 was raised in a single afternoon as 35 teams came together to support local athletes through a spirited community fundraiser in Kapolei.

Ka Makana Alii successfully hosted Special Olympics Hawaii’s Truck Pull & Spring Fest, transforming its grounds into a hub of energy, teamwork and generosity.

Organizers emphasized that the event was about more than physical strength. It highlighted the power of community connection and the importance of showing up for a meaningful cause.

The purpose

The event brought together businesses, community groups, students and first responders, all united by a shared goal: to give back while celebrating the strength and determination of athletes with intellectual disabilities. The funds raised will directly support Special Olympics Hawaii programs and athletes.

The challenge

The fundraiser challenged teams of eight to pull a 40,000-pound Coca-Cola semi-truck 30 feet in the fastest time. While the competition added excitement, the true impact came from the collective effort behind the scenes.
