HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A state corrections employee accused of fraud and theft related crimes has been charged Sunday.
The state Department of the Attorney General said Julianne Kaniaupio, an employee with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, was charged April 8 following an investigation into alleged misconduct at Halawa Correctional Facility.
Prosecutors said Kaniaupio is accused of using her position to steal a credit card containing about $8,960 from an inmate’s out-processing paperwork ahead of the inmate’s release. Authorities said she also allegedly withdrew $500 in cash before the card was deactivated…
