HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Lawmakers passed legislation to expand speed cameras on Oahu and create new safety rules for e-bikes, but left unresolved an enforcement issue that has limited citations to a couple of dozen over four months.
The speed camera expansion bill would allow the state to add cameras beyond the 10 urban Honolulu intersections where they currently operate. The state Department of Transportation will be able to add 10 new locations a year based on dangerousness, but no more than two in any senatorial district.
The expansion applies only to Oahu.
