BWS: First-time watermain breaks justifies not paying damage claims

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Kailua man whose damage claim was denied by the Board of Water Supply said he’s gotten lucky with another utility company.

He said he will continue to fight for his claim, even though BWS said it considers “first time main breaks” as a valid excuse to not pay for damage.

Crews with Hawaiian Electric installed temporary, above-ground wiring to Frank Nyross’ home in Kailua, the morning after a water main break flooded his yard, damaging his underground wiring. Nyross said HECO informed him they will soon trench his yard, and install underground conduit and wiring again – at no cost to him…
