Houston ISD will eliminate 300 central office positions at the end of 2025-26 school year

Houston ISD told 300 central office employees this month that their positions will be eliminated at the end of the 2025-26 school year, according to a May 5 internal email to school leaders, which could save the district $35 million.

State-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles called it “a tough day” in central office and tied the reduction in staff to drops in enrollment and revenue, “not due to a lack of skill or will.” HISD’s state-appointed board of managers approved a wide-ranging reduction in force in April.
