HOUSTON (CW39) – Houston Fire Department officials say a woman is recovering after HFD crews rescued her from Buffalo Bayou on Monday morning following a dramatic water rescue that unfolded near downtown Houston.
Authorities said the incident began shortly after 7:30 a.m. when Houston Fire Department crews were dispatched to calls about a woman standing on a pillar near Buffalo Bayou. Responders arrived within minutes, but before they could reach her, officials said she jumped into the water.
“When crews arrived, she jumped in,” officials said.
How did the rescue unfold?
Houston Fire Department rescue personnel immediately launched a boat into the water. Responders also deployed a drone to help track the woman’s location in the bayou. That aerial view proved valuable as crews coordinated their response and moved toward the woman in the water.
“HFD Rescue put a boat in the water, used their drone to locate her, and made the save,” Houston Fire Department said in a social media update.
Why was the response so important?
The use of multiple rescue tools allowed firefighters to quickly coordinate a rescue, cutting the amount of time the woman spent in the water. “Quick work by all on scene,” the department said.
