Alleged violent behavior led to temporary suspension of Houston-area doctor’s license, TMB says

The license of a Houston-area doctor was temporarily suspended after he was allegedly detained and arrested multiple times due to intoxication and violent behavior, among other allegations, the Texas Medical Board said.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, the Board panel said that Dr. Derrick Anthony Mitchell’s medical license was temporarily suspended without notice. The panel added that they determined if Mitchell continued to practice medicine, it would be a threat to public welfare.

The Board said that between February and May 2026, Mitchell was detained and/or arrested by law enforcement on multiple occasions, exhibiting a pattern of intoxication, mental impairment, and violent behavior…
