A year ago, Houston’s local FOX television station decided to eliminate a position in its sports department. In June 2025, Will Kunkel, the sports director and anchor for FOX 26, was let go from the network. Kunkel was with the station for two years and previously worked for five years at a FOX affiliate station in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Kunkel, a native of Connecticut who has continued to reside in Houston, landed a new national role with ESPN, working as a fill-in host for the media outlet’s national radio network.
“I start at the end of July,” Kunkel told Chron on Wednesday. “I’ll be using the ESPN 97.5 studios because it’s an affiliation, so I can use it. They can plug it in, and I can work from there.”…
