Couple marries at Texas hospital after medical emergency

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A young couple said “I do” at South Texas Health System in McAllen after a medical emergency put their wedding plans on hold.

Just days before the couple’s big day, 40-year-old Gabriel Garcia of San Benito rushed his fiancée, 34-year-old Adriana Pomares of Houston, to the emergency room at STHS McAllen after she experienced breathing difficulties and a rapid heart rate.

According to a spokesperson from STHS, doctors discovered fluid around Pomares’ heart and lungs, which prompted them to transfer her to STHS Heart for specialized care.

The couple’s wedding was originally scheduled on Saturday, July 25; however, they realized the plans would have to change. After an emergency procedure to remove the fluid found around Pomares’ heart, along with additional testing, she was unable to be released from the hospital in time for their wedding…
