Texas has seen several notable restaurant closures this month, including longtime establishments with decades of history. From an iconic Houston barbecue restaurant to a popular San Antonio Greek restaurant, these closures have ended familiar dining traditions for local customers.
Barbecue Inn closes after nearly 80 years
One of the month’s most notable closures came in Houston, where Barbecue Inn served its final meals on August 1 after nearly 80 years in business. The family-owned restaurant opened in 1946 and became known for its fried chicken, barbecue, seafood and old-school atmosphere.
Owner Wayne Skrehot, 86, decided it was time to retire. He also cited rising food and operating costs as challenges facing the business.
Zorbas closes after 18 years
San Antonio also lost a longtime favorite when Zorbas Greek Mediterranean Cuisine permanently closed its Castle Hills location after 18 years.
