Baytown man who searched ‘is it illegal to kill an immigrant’ before killing his fiancé gets 35 years

A Baytown man was sentenced to 35 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to murder over the shooting of his fiancé.

In the hours before the Jan. 14, 2025, killing of Luis David Banos, Ty Vaughn searched whether it was illegal to kill an “illegal immigrant,” prosecutors said.

Banos, a native of Mexico, was shot in the face with a rifle, according to police. Vaughn then moved his body and attempted to stage the scene to appear to be a suicide, police said.
