Roda Osman, 33, turned herself over to Houston Police Tuesday morning, and has been charged with felony theft by deception
A Texas Ph.D. student who went viral last year for scolding bystanders who failed to intervene when a man supposedly attacked her with a brick is now behind bars, charged with concocting the story for sympathy donations.
Known popularly as ” Brick Lady ,” Roda Osman, 33, turned herself over to Houston Police Tuesday morning, and has been charged with felony theft by deception.
Osman, Houston Police allege, raised more than $40,000 in donations via a fraudulent GoFundMe campaign , after her video detailing the fabricated story made the social media rounds.
Osman called police in September claiming that her Uber driver had thrown the brick at her outside a Houston club because she’d refused to give him her phone number, Click2Houston reported.
She said the driver — later identified as Olan Douglas — then attempted to kidnap her as part of a human trafficking ring, adding that a group of women had already been corralled into the car with him.
