Texas has taken over another local school district

Texas has taken over another local school district, this one in South Texas.

Last year, the Texas Education Agency replaced the school board and the superintendent in the Houston ISD because of academic problems at some schools.

Now, the TEA has replaced the elected school board and installed a new superintendent in the La Joya ISD in Hidalgo County, near McAllen.

The TEA’s report cites a “significant problem with public corruption” within the La Joya ISD. Several employees and some board members plead “guilty” to corruption charges that included bribery, kickbacks and rigging contracts.
