Houston, TX – A recent crackdown on violent crime, three Houston men have been charged with a series of armed robberies targeting local diner chains, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. The accused, Christopher Djuan Roberts, 27, Xavier Edward Jones, 28, and Wesley James Thomas, 29, face serious charges following their alleged involvement in the early morning robberies of a Waffle House and a Denny’s in Houston.
The indictment, issued on January 24, outlines a spree of criminal activity that includes interference with commerce by threat or force, brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and being felons in possession of a firearm. Roberts and Jones are set for detention hearings before U.S. Magistrate Judge Peter Bray, while Thomas, who is currently detained in another jurisdiction, will be brought to Houston to face his charges at a later date.
The trio is accused of executing back-to-back armed robberies on October 15, 2023. Their alleged crime wave began at the Waffle House located at 635 Rankin Road, quickly moving to a Denny’s at 11320 North Freeway. During these incidents, the men are said to have brandished handguns, intimidating employees and patrons to surrender cash at both locations.
