Texas Man Charged with Murder for Killing Convicted Sex Offender

A Deadly Deception

In a case that has captivated and shocked the community, a Texas man has been charged with the murder of a convicted sex offender in what authorities are describing as a “planned execution.” James Spencer III, 22, is accused of posing as a minor online to lure Sean Connery Showers, 37, into a fatal trap.

The Houston Police Department reports that the incident took place in the early hours of May 29, 2023, when Showers approached a vehicle, allegedly believing he was meeting a minor. It was at this moment that Spencer, who had remained unidentified until recent investigations, is said to have shot and killed Showers.

The Investigation Unfolds

Following a detailed investigation, Spencer was arrested by local authorities who claim he admitted to the killing. Surveillance footage captured a car stopping at 3:50 am on the street where Showers’ body was later found in a ditch, the driver firing numerous shots before speeding away.

Further investigations revealed that Spencer had allegedly used the internet to lure Showers, exploiting the latter’s criminal background as a sex offender. Showers had previously pleaded guilty in 2009 to possessing child sex abuse material and was sentenced again in 2019 for failing to register as a sex offender.
