A fugitive was shot and killed after a multi-agency investigation early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
In a press conference, Assistant Chief Tommy Diaz from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office updated the public on how the situation unfolded in the 14600 block of Lourdes Drive around 7 a.m.
According to officials, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force was searching for a man wanted on five counts of sexual assault of a child.
The suspect stepped out in front of law enforcement, but as they attempted an arrest, he jumped into a vehicle. Deputies on the scene gave the man several orders to exit the car, but that is when he allegedly pulled out a pistol, causing law enforcement to discharge their weapons.
Diaz said an investigation is pending at this time to determine if the suspect fired first or how many times he shot. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but officials later confirmed he had died.
It was revealed that just one day before, the same task force was involved in a shooting while attempting to serve an arrest warrant also in east Harris County.
