The Houston metro area will be among the areas at risk for thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, hail, flooding downpours and isolated tornadoes later this week.
A potentially volatile post-Christmas severe weather event will put more than 10 million people at risk for damaging thunderstorms across part of the south-central United States, AccuWeather experts warn.
The area at risk for severe thunderstorms will stretch from southeastern Oklahoma through eastern Texas into Arkansas and Louisiana from midday Thursday through Thursday night.
“Given sufficient energy and a pronounced change in wind speed and direction with height in the atmosphere, all modes of severe weather are on the table, including hail, flooding, high winds and isolated tornadoes,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Gwen Fieweger said.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to erupt around midday Thursday over the Dallas metro area, which could result in further travel headaches for air passengers, similar to the weather-related delays experienced on Christmas Eve.
