Child expected to survive after accidental shooting on Sandpiper Drive

HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — A seven-year-old boy is expected to be okay after Houston police say he shot himself in SW Houston. It happened around 8:15 p.m. at an apartment on Sandpiper Drive .

According to police reports, a man inside the apartment was walking around with a gun before it slipped out of his hand.

That is when a seven-year-old allegedly picked up the firearm and accidently shot himself in the right forearm. He was taken to the hospital. No charges have been filed at this time.
