Houston man accused of stealing $1.3M by recruiting women to falsely claim dead men as kids’ fathers

A Houston man on Thursday was arrested and accused of using his access to Social Security information to steal more than $1.3 million from the federal government by enlisting women to falsely claim dead men were their children’s fathers, according to charges filed in the U.S. Southern District Court of Texas.

David Lam is accused of recruiting the mothers to fraudulently apply for child survivor benefits from the government. The women had no actual connection to the dead men, according to court records
