HISD launches investigation after parent outrage over students being forced to clean dirty restroom

The administration at Houston ISD’s Wharton Dual Language Academy launched an investigation after teachers allegedly told middle school boys to clean up a dirty, trash-strewn school restroom Tuesday.

Teachers at the K-8 school asked students to take responsibility after the middle school boys’ restroom was found in disarray. When no one came forward, they viewed cleaning the restroom as a “logical consequence,” according to a statement given to parents Wednesday.

“The teachers intended to create a reflective learning moment that would encourage students to take ownership of their shared spaces and show respect for the school environment and the custodial staff,” Principal Veronica Celedon said in a Wednesday message. “Understandably, this should have been handled differently.”…
