Cactus Music is turning 50. Here are things to know about the iconic Houston shop.

Cactus Music, an iconic Houston destination for music and video, will turn 50 this year — and shows no signs of aging.

The store opened in October 1975 in what is now a Whole Earth Provision Co. on Sheperd, and has been host to musicians and filmmakers along the way. Fans may recall the time Jeff Buckley performed at the store in 1994, or how Houston’s Wes Anderson hung out in the VHS and DVD rental area while working on his 2001 movie, “The Royal Tenenbaums.”
