Derrick W. Foster, 41, the suspect charged in the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Melvin Jackson on April 4, has been taken into custody. Foster is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court.
Houston Police Department (HPD) patrol officers responded to a shooting call at 2599 Wheeler Avenue at approximately 2:35 p.m. on April 4. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive man, later identified as Melvin Jackson, lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Jackson deceased at the scene.
According to the initial investigation by HPD Homicide Division Detectives G. Rangel and H. Montealegre, the shooting may have stemmed from a prior argument at a nearby convenience store. At the time, no suspect information was immediately available…
