Two Children Rescued, Woman and Infant Perish as Vehicle Plunges into Houston Ship Channel Waters

A tragic incident unfolded in Channelview when a vehicle with a woman and three children inside plunged into the waters near Market Street and River Haven, close to the Houston Ship Channel, authorities reported. As per the Click2Houston coverage, the event occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. and prompted witnesses to call 911 after observing the vehicle descend into the water.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that two children were rescued from the submerged vehicle by a witness who braved the waters, while a 39-year-old woman, and an infant believed to be about 1 year old were found deceased. The children, possibly aged around 5 and 7 years old, were taken to a nearby hospital in good condition, testimony to the heroic efforts of good Samaritans and first responders at the scene. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez indicated investigators are considering the possibility that the driver suffered a medical emergency leading to the unfortunate event, as the vehicle was “not going fast at all,” Click2Houston reported.
