Houston Man Charged with Murder and Illegal Firearm Possession After Fatal Sweetwater Lane Shooting

Houston law enforcement officials have reported the arrest of a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the early morning hours of April 15 at the 8900 block of Sweetwater Lane, a somber reminder of the city’s ongoing battle with gun violence. The Houston Police Department identified the suspect as 31-year-old David Michael Villarreal, now facing charges for murder and illegal firearm possession due to a prior felony, as outlined in a City of Houston news release which included a photo of the charged individual.

The shooting claimed the life of a man named Jose Segoiva Arvizu, 34, who was found wounded outside a vehicle; despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Arvizu succumbed to his injuries on April 19, the gravity of the violence casting a shadow over the community, and now Villarreal, with a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for a separate occurrence at 415 W. Mierianne Street, where shots were fired, thankfully without injury is set to face the consequences in the 262nd State District Court. Patrol officers responded to the initial incident after the fatal shot rang out, marking the beginning of an investigation that led to Monday’s arrest, according to the City of Houston.

Upon further digging, Houston police honed in on Villarreal as the main suspect for the Sweetwater Lane homicide; his arrest on Monday was expedited, quickly following the investigative developments, according to the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division, helmed by Sergeants R.
