HOUSTON — Residents of Magnolia Place Apartments in southeast Houston are seeking assistance as broken elevators have left many struggling to navigate stairs. Several senior citizens, including Gwendolyn Larkins, have been forced to use the stairs despite mobility issues.
The elevators at Magnolia Place Apartments have been mostly out of service for several months, residents said. Carolyn Gipson, who lives on the fourth floor, contacted us when the last remaining freight elevator stopped working almost two weeks ago. It has yet to be repaired.
“They just say they’re working on it,” she said. Gipson, who has a heart condition and wears a defibrillator, was forced to cancel a cardiologist appointment last week because she couldn’t manage the stairs. “I missed my doctor’s appointment on Sept. 22. We rescheduled for Sept. 30, but I was not able to make that appointment,” she said…
