HOUSTON — Members of the Houston Police Officers Union will start to vote on a new contract with the city. This comes as city leaders continue working to balance the budget.

This is a new five-year contract, and it’s being called transformational by city and police leaders. It includes nearly 37% in pay increases over five years, starting with a 10% bump in 2025.

Right now, Houston police officers start at around $62,000 a year, but by next summer, a first-year officer will make $81,000 plus extra pay for working nights and weekends…
