An expert warned Whitmire about issues with HPD’s new records system in August. Now it’s delayed

Eight months before the Houston Police Department was set to switch to a new, $31 million records system , a public safety systems expert penned a letter expressing concern about the company chosen and how the city might be setting itself up to go through a second suspended cases scandal.

Versartem Public Safety Inc. had previously been hired by 40 agencies to install a records management system consortium, but the network was plagued with issues, leading to an exodus after it went live in 2015, the letter warned. The August letter went unanswered.
