Fulshear, a suburb southwest of Houston in Fort Bend County, ranked second nationally in growth by percentage.
Houston gained approximately 43,000 new residents between 2023 and 2024, with its increase ranking second only to New York City, according to data released this month by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Meanwhile, the nearby suburb of Fulshear ranked second nationally in terms of growth by percentage.
According to the data, Houston was second overall among the 12 U.S. cities with the largest numeric population gains. New York earned first place on the list with more than double the growth of Houston, adding approximately 87,000 new residents. Two other Texas cities also made the top five, with San Antonio gaining almost 24,000 residents and Fort Worth adding about 23,400.
Several Texas towns also made the list for largest percentage increases in population from 2023 to 2024. Fulshear, located southwest of Houston in Fort Bend County, ranked second nationwide with a population increase of 26.9%, bringing its total population to 54,629, according to Census data. Fulshear has been growing so fast in recent years that the city council considered a moratorium on new developments in 2023.
Overall, Texas cities accounted for four of the top five fastest-growing cities in the U.S. by percentage. Princeton, north of Dallas, ranked first with a 30% increase in population.
