Tenants speak out against poor living conditions

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Earlier this week, Houston city council met for the Prop A Committee meeting where the Apartment Inspection Ordinance was presented before councilmembers, developers, activists and tenants.

Faye Ku was one tenant that spoke about her problems with her previous apartment complex, Uvalde Ranch Apartments, located in northeast Houston. She says that she was very proud of her complex at the beginning but soon after started to experience problems like leaks, mold, roaches, termites and even health complications.

One of her biggest issues was a leak that started small, but soon grew into a bigger problem. “It was just one like you would see one kind of long, long drip of water kind of going across the top. And it started happening in March. I said, oh, my goodness. Okay, well, let’s get on that, because I know in Houston if you have a water issue, it’s going to turn into mold, Right? Especially if you don’t have like the power. I started trying to get my apartment complex right away on this and nothing happened,” Ku explains…
