The City of Houston filed two lawsuits in recent months to declare affordable housing complexes common nuisances, most recently this week, as city council decides whether to spend more money to target nuisance cases.
The city filed a common nuisance lawsuit Monday against the property at 1901 Richmond Ave. in the Montrose area, owned by Fat Property Management. The city alleged that over the past three years, the “seriousness and frequency” of the crime that has occurred at the apartment complex has been of “particular concern” to the Houston Police Department.
