A Houston couple is seeking the community’s help in covering the cost of housing and basic needs after a large fire destroyed their home last week.
Rose and Joe Garza’s apartments were among the more than 30 units destroyed in last week’s 2-alarm fire at the Independence Hall Apartments, a senior living complex in north Houston.
The couple, who are both disabled, lived in separate apartment units because Joe uses a wheelchair and needs large medical equipment for day-to-day activities after he had a stroke in 2015. They had lived at the complex for 11 years, but were told their building would no longer exist after the fire.
