Texas DMV backs new law to crack down on fake license plates

HOUSTON (KIAH) —In Texas, starting July 1, temporary paper plates will no longer be permitted. New law, House Bill 718, aims to crack down on fake license plates used in traffic crimes.

Per the new law, dealerships are now obligated to issue metal license plates without delay.

In order to elevate security, prevent fraud, and strengthen traffic enforcement, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) supports this law. Officials said that criminals use fake license plates to hide their identities.
