55 charged in Texas, majority in Houston area, in national healthcare fraud takedown

(The Center Square) – Of the more than 324 people involved in a nearly $15 billion health care fraud scam, 55 were charged in federal courts in Texas. The majority charged were in the Houston area in the Southern District of Texas.

Statewide, those charged were residents of Houston, Katy, League City, Lubbock, Manvel, McKinney, Pearland, Plano, Richmond, Rosharon, San Antonio and Sugar Land; as well as residents of Florida, Indiana and Georgia, and a citizen of India.

In the southern district, 22 cases were brought against nearly 50 defendants, including 18 medical professionals, after nearly 12 million pills were illegally distributed and $360 million was fraudulently billed to Medicare…
