HOUSTON (KIAH) — Houston Mayor John Whitmire honored K-9 Rocky during Wednesday’s city council meeting, calling him “a hero of the City of Houston” and recognizing his bravery with an official proclamation.
“This is a great city, with great people and great public servants—and Rocky certainly is one of them,” Whitmire said. “I’m proud to have a proclamation that allows Rocky to get recognition by 2.3 million Houstonians.”
K-9 Rocky was shot in January while helping officer catch a suspect accused of killing a Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy. When that suspect hid, Rocky found him and led police to the capture of the suspect accused. Today’s proclamation also recognized Rocky’s handler, Mr. Newsome, and his U.S. Marshals team for their ongoing efforts to keep Houston and the surrounding region safe.
The mayor’s office shared the recognition on Instagram, thanking Rocky and his team “for all the work you do to keep us safe.”…
