Houston police officer joins lawsuit alleging injury from accidental discharge of popular pistol

Around a quarter of Houston police officers carry a gun linked to several misfire cases across the country, including one that injured a local officer and a recent fatal shooting in the U.S. Air Force.

Attorneys for Houston police Officer Richard Fernandez Jr. recently filed suit against firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer and a local Houston shop over his duty model P320 pistol, which they allege misfired while he was directing traffic ahead of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade, sending a bullet through his right calf that lodged in his ankle.
