Parent upset after Alabama church youth group visits Houston homeless camp without notice

Courtney Wingo initially had concerns when she learned her daughter’s student ministry at Leatherwood Baptist Church in Alabama was planning a three-day service trip to Houston.

She didn’t want her 12-year-old daughter, Kamryn, in a potentially dangerous situation. The church’s youth ministries director, Mike Webb, assured her it would be fine: the group was just going to a food bank, she recounted.

As the trip was underway, Wingo learned from several hundreds of miles away through a Facebook post that the group had spent part of its second day visiting a “tent city” in Houston to have gospel conversations with people who are homeless.
