DHS claims that ICE immigration crackdown fuels crime decline. Experts say not so much

Officials inside President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security this month attributed a nationwide decline in crime rates to ICE’s efforts to ramp up mass deportations, but experts say it’s unlikely to be making a significant impact.

An expert in public safety data rejected the administration’s claims, saying 2025’s numbers fall in line with a trend that began several years ago of declining crime rates.
